Cheap (crappy?) plastic instruments
Monday, July 14th, 2008I’ve been playing Rock Band for a few months, as a former drummer it’s been great to have something that gives me the chance to revisit my drumming without having to have a full kit around the house.
However as I finally got serious about completing some of the solo tours I noticed that I was having a lot of problems with sections of songs that shouldn’t really be an issue at all (long runs of simple 16th notes…please). Finally fed up I turned to google and found out that the issue wasn’t in fact me, but was the drums. It turns out you have to put a penny inside your green and red drums in order to make them actually responsive. Which makes me question Harmonix hardware QA, obviously one of the key requirements of a custom game controller should be that it is physically able to complete the game content you give it. Prior to my modification my red drum would drop at least 1/3 of the notes if you did a 16th note roll on it, which means you WILL fail any song that has an extended roll.
I’d have to think this oversight is also costing them a lot in RMA as people return instruments which aren’t technically broken, but just aren’t high enough quality to play the game.
